The 2008 APA national conference is going west and in Las Vegas no less! What a wonderful opportunity for planners and planning students in our region to attend a national conference. Though all know Las Vegas as the ultimate tourism destination – it also has the same planning challenges facing the western United States – scarce resources including water, transportation, housing affordability, downtown revitalization, densification & sprawl, and sustainability, to name just a few. There are 70 plus workshops, great program sessions and fun events planned. You won’t want to miss it – so start planning now!

To commemorate the 100th Planning Conference of the American Planning Association (APA) being held in Las Vegas from April 27 to May 1, 2008, the Nevada Section of the Association for Advancement of Cost Engineering
International (AACE), with its theme of "Knowledge Sharing" is having an Open House from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at the Gordon Biersch located at 3987 Paradise Road.
The featured speaker, Mr. James Baxter, Executive Director of AACE will speak on the "Future of AACE through Synergism with Other Professional Organizations". He will address the current state, national initiatives and future plans for enhancing membership services and respond to questions.
This event provides an excellent opportunity for AACE members to meet Mr. Baxter and discuss issues of interest to them. All members are encouraged to attend.
AACE has invited Mr. Paul Farmer, FAICP, Executive Director and CEO of APA to come join us at the Open House. Invitations have also been sent to other APA members and Speakers to join us, if their busy schedules allow to initiate synergism between APA and AACE and explore the possibility of a cooperative agreement beneficial to members of both organizations. The subject of a cooperative agreement was initially broached with Ms Joanne Garnett, when she was the President of APA.
AACE will also be located at Booth 418 in the APA Conference Exhibits Area.
As a member of both organizations, I have found them to be of immense value in my professional career and encourage members from both side to avail this opportunity to familiarize with how the two organizations view planning - a vision and its implementation, in furthering our mutual goal
of a better world.
The location was selected for its familiarity to the members of APA's Southern Nevada Chapter, and is an ideal locale for informal exchange of ideas. We look forward to seeing you. Information interest cards will also be located in Booth 418 in the Exhibits Area or visit us at www.aacei.org.
