Welcome to the Nevada
Chapter of the American Planning Association
The
Chapter's Mission is to...
To
promote public involvement and excellence in planning and to
impove the quality of life in the State of Nevada through professional
development and education.

The
Nevada Chapter of the American Planning Association, like the
state of Nevada, is strong, diverse, and adapting to new challenges.
True to a refrain from our state song, "Right in the heart of
the golden west", the Nevada chapter is a sustaining member of
Western Planning Resources, Inc. publisher of the Western Planner
magazine. Chapter members receive a Western Planner subscription
as a benefit of their membership.
Two-thirds
of all Nevadans live or work in the Las Vegas metropolitan area,
and the same is true of the Chapter's membership. As of December,
2002, there are 340 Chapter members throughout the state. About
20 percent of the members are Planning Commissioners and other
officials. About 30 percent of Chapter members are members of
the American Institute of Certified Planners. Members are served
by two sections- Northern and Southern. The Northern Section,
with 139 members serves 13 of Nevada's 17 counties. The Southern
section serves the remaining area of the state including Las
Vegas and Clark County. This section has 201 members.
The Chapter hosts an annual conference now in its
37th year. Usually held in the fall, the conference is a great way for practitioners
to hone their skills and compare notes with colleagues from throughout
the region. The Southern Section hosted the 2003 conference August
5-8, 2003 at the the Golden Nugget hotel in downtown Las Vegas.
The conference was jointly hosted with the Western Planning Resources,
Inc. and the American Planning Association state chapters of the
four corner states (Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, and Utah). The
2004 conference hosted on October 26-28 at Harvey's, South
Lake Tahoe. The 2005 conference was hosted on August 30-September 1, at Atrium Suites Hotel, Las Vegas. The 2006 conference was hosted on September 6-8th at the Plaza Hotel in Carson City. The April 2008 conference was hosted at the Venetician Hotel in Las Vegas.
